Buddies part 2

I have nothing really to post since I had to miss it because there was a quiz in french that had to be done during that lunch. Next time I hope to learn how to be a leader next time. I learned a bit over time but I feel with this opportunity I can learn things I could not learn anywhere else. I believe these sessions could be great lessons for me about being a great leader and how to motivate others and to accomplish goals.

Joint fitness update

Abhishek sent the picture recently to my post with the Joint fitness name on it.

Update

This is an update from my home work out post. I have stepped up my incline to the max on the treadmill which is 12. It took  me time to get used to it, I even wanted to quit in between but I still kept going. I know hope I can step up my speed from 4.5 to 5.

home work out

As I said in an earlier post I run on the treadmill. I run for an hour everyday. My routine is all cardio since that I want to lose weight. I choose the weight loss program on the treadmill which puts me on an steep incline and then slows down and goes to a less steep incline then switches back in intervals. My parents say there has been improvement but I don't really notice since that they see my entire body in a different perspective then i do. My fitness improved before the break but it dipped after coming back since I went to India and couldn't run or exercise since how busy I was. Coming back after competing all missed work I started to run again. I noticed how quickly I got back to my original pace, I even intensified it. Ever since I started to run i notice how my body works and what i need to do to improve it.

P.S this picture is from a little while after coming back since that I lost this picture and finally found it recently.

on your own

Yesterday we organized our own games. I chose CTF . Along with me was Abhishek and Tulin who set up and organized the game. There was also Miggy and Harjot but they didn't help. Me and Abhishek went and got the equipment and were expecting no one there that was organizing the activity. but when we arrived there was Tulin trying to get everyone together. Most of the kids were wandering around playing with beanbags and started to play with footballs once we brought them. I had to yell to get their attention and when they finally got together Tulin went over the game and dictated the rules. Abhishek set up the game and and split up the balls. I had to go around and basically watch the kids and enforce the rules so that the cheaters would not ruin the game for the others. I first told them quietly to follow the rules but that didn't work. So i had to raise my voice until I had to yell then they got the idea to stop cheating. Whenever we had to change the rules many would say that's stupid or I don't want to do that and even tried to change the rules by themselves. I had to tell them if they don't want to listen, leave. I had to do this until the end of the game. I learned that how hard it is to be a leader but it is important to take the lead since that if you don't nothing will be accomplished.

Boot Camp

Lat week the bands did a boot camp like fitness activity. We would get a partner to out compete in a list of activities we got. We had a minuet to do one of the things on the list. then we had 30 sec to rest and to set up the next activity. The hardest one was the high jump, since you had to line the jumps perfectly or you would fall. Which I did. When we had to do 2 extra activities since people went to run 2 extra times even though you are supposed to do it once, Joel and Abhishek were saying i had the most perseverance since i was going as hard as I could even though I was tired. I don't believe I deserved praise because I was doing what I was supposed to do. My score was around 2-3 thousand. If I did this a year ago i would have most likely got a lower score.

Joint fitness

The joint band also had fitness as well. For fitness we did an activity were you get a partner and one partner goes for a run and the other partner does an activity in the middle, then you switch. Everything was going great until i tripped and fell on the concrete. My leg was bleeding and it hurting real bad. Arjun suggested I sit out for the rest of the time but I said no, I was going to finish it.  Right after the fall I couldn't run as fast as I could since there was so much pain but as time went on the pain disappeared. Along the way Joel was cheering me on giving me high fives and saying good job when switched. I too was encouraging him. Despite falling midway through the activity I still tried my best. I would be posting a picture but Abhishek still has to send me the picture.

Speed ball

On Monday the joint band played speed ball. I forgot my gym strip at home so I was wearing jeans and regular shoes. Even with these on I believe I tried my hardest. I tried to run fast as I could. I stayed defense because there was only one other person and one goalie even though defense isn't exactly a rewarding position. I even jumped in goal when the goalie was in trouble but not for long since the other person was having trouble trying to keep up with everyone that was coming towards the net. When I got a ball I always passed it knowing that I was needed defending the net rather than going up scoring a goal. Arjun tried to encourage me to go up and get a goal, he even passed to me to score. I appreciated this but I knew I would be leaving the net vulnerable so I stayed. I tried my best chasing the attackers and putting pressure on them despite knowing they would be faster than me. I encouraged others when I ever got the chance. I thought i tried to make the class better whith my efforts.

Buddies

I didn't know what to expect or do for my first buddies session. I asked Arjun and Abhishek what to do and what to bring. They said all you do is find your buddy and do the activity Neuf said to do, they even said to not bring gym strip. I found out later you actually needed to do. When i got there Harjot wasn't here so I din't know who was my buddy so I took one buddy from someone who had 2 buddies. The activity for the day was to do rock paper scissors but using your body. I explained to my buddy how to do it. The buddy followed the directions no problem and was very excited to play. Then we had to explain how to do the activity and to find another buddy to do it with. In the activity if you lost in body rock paper scissors the buddy had to run to the wall and run back and do it again over and over. My buddy had lots of energy but when he ran back and forth he was getting more tired each time. At first I would high five when ever he came back but it didn't help him so I started to run with him. This got my buddy revitalized so he ran harder and harder trying to out run me. when the whistle was blown we next played a game were you run back and forth and people try to chase and tag you out. When that was done the buddies showed us a awesome dance then we were done for the day. when it was over I learned that people need encouragement for them to try harder. When I encouraged my buddy and ran with him he tried harder and harder. I hope i get to learn more next time.
